Tegan Fitzsimon is the rider that all FEI POLi Payments World Cup competitors pursue, having claimed her third victory in four qualifiers in the New Zealand League’s penultimate round.

Today’s victory, at Metalform Central and Southern Hawke’s Bay Showjumping Show in Dannevirke, allows him to head to the series later this month in a dominant position in the charts.

Eleven lined up today to be challenged by course designer Roger Laplanche and very gusty wind conditions. Only four were clear and on time in the first round – Tegan, Phillip Steiner (Tauranga) aboard Cassina Dior, the final two-time winner and Olympic Cup holder Brooke Edgecombe (Waipukurau) with LT Holst Andrea and veteran Maurice Beatson (Dannevirke) on Central Se park.

In the second, Tegan aboard Windermere Cappuccino and Phillip with Cassina Dior were the only ones keeping their slates perfectly clean, however, the clears also came from Logan Massie (Dannevirke) with Bravado Ego Z and the World Cup debutant. Jeremy Whale (Hampton Downs) with Idol D, both fault carriers in the first round.

Tegan was delighted with her beloved bay gelding. “He was so good there,” said the two-time World Cup Series winner West Melton. “The course went very well and was very enjoyable. It was quite big but everyone’s horses jumped well.

Windermere Cappuccino was strong enough for its rider in the first lap but calmed down a bit for the second. “He was very energetic and keen to get back into the ring after a little break. It’s good, but it made life a bit difficult. He still jumped fantastically and felt really good.

The people of the South Island, based in the north seven months of the year, were the last to participate in the second round. “He’s been naturally quick this season, so I figured if I kept pushing things pretty tight, everything should be okay.”

She was particularly happy to score another clear double. “He’s been a lot more consistent signing clear doubles this season. It’s nice to see him jump so well past Hawke’s Bay where he struggled in these conditions (very wet and swampy). It’s great to find him on the right track.

Phillip and Cassina Dior placed second with their double clear round in 63.74 seconds, a little behind Tegan’s 57.29, with Brooke in third place, finishing on four fouls after an unlucky rail at the end of the second tower.

New report highlights Saudi aid contribution to developing countries’ well-being

DJEDDAH: Since the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in 1970 calling on economically advanced countries to contribute at least 0.7% of their gross national income to developing countries in the form of aid, the global need for humanitarian and development aid has evolved in only one direction: upwards.

The latest Global Humanitarian Overview notes that 235 million people are in need and face an uncertain future, and that the COVID-19 pandemic has triggered “the deepest global recession since the 1930s.”

Looking on the bright side, however, the past two decades have seen many organized aid conferences and fundraising events and a steady increase in the number of aid providers. The humanitarian and development assistance provided by Saudi Arabia alone is a testament to the significant impact that foreign aid, coupled with clear policies, effectiveness and accountability, has had on people’s lives. of beneficiary countries.

In 2020, the financial tracking service of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs showed that Saudi Arabia was the sixth most generous donor in the world, providing 3% of global humanitarian aid. In October 2021, the Kingdom ranked third among the world’s largest donors, with its share of humanitarian aid increasing to 5%.

For a while, Saudi Arabia’s aid neither received the media recognition it deserved nor gained prominence in international aid platforms. The Kingdom itself has not released any data or reports related to foreign aid, choosing to keep a low profile in line with Saudi culture and Islamic practice of preserving the dignity of the recipient when making charitable donations.

But now, a research paper titled “Why the World Needs a Partnership with Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s Global Development and Humanitarian Assistance” has shed light on how aid provided by Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia to developing countries around the world has contributed significantly to their well-being.

Saudi Arabia’s financial support to various United Nations agencies

Published by the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, the document presents the Kingdom’s humanitarian and development program, describing the different categories of aid, where it is dispersed (by country and region), the targeted sectors and its evolution over time. . It also highlights Saudi assistance to developing countries in their efforts to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and support for refugees in the country.

The author of the article, Makki Hamid, director of research and information at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, said that the Saudi Fund for Development, the Kingdom’s main provider of development assistance, generously funded projects in various fields, including health. , agriculture, irrigation, electricity and transport – over the years in a large number of countries.

“Saudi development assistance has been provided in the form of grants and concessional loans and has provided significant funding in the form of budget and deposits in the central banks of many low- and middle-income countries,” he said. told Arab News. “These budget supports and deposits help to strengthen and improve the economy of these countries.

As the document notes, Saudi Arabia has a long history of helping developing countries affected by natural disasters and countries in need of immediate assistance. It reported its aid data to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development – Development Assistance Committee for many years as an aggregate data set, until 2018, when it became participating member of the OECD-DAC, represented by KSRelief.

KSRelief has started collecting data from the Kingdom’s various aid providers to provide overseas aid through the financial tracking services of UNOCHA, the OECD-DAC and the International Transparency Initiative. ugly.

Currently, Saudi Arabia provides several categories of official development assistance, namely humanitarian aid (given in emergencies), development aid (to improve the economic and social well-being of developing countries ) and charitable aid (which is provided for cultural or religious purposes for such purposes as building mosques or supporting Hajj pilgrims).

Saudi ODA is provided in the form of financial assistance or in-kind assistance in the form of goods or services to a recipient’s organization or country. This may include food aid, vehicles, logistical support, medical supplies, drugs and equipment. Aid is provided through the Saudi Fund for Development, KSRelief and other donor entities registered in a unified database, the Saudi Aid Platform, established by royal decree in 2018.

In addition, Saudi Arabia provides bilateral assistance through governments, national non-governmental organizations, international NGOs and multilaterally through institutions such as relevant United Nations agencies and organizations of the Cross. -Red and Crescent.

Through strategic partnerships, Saudi Arabia, a founding member of the United Nations, provided financial assistance totaling $ 5.2 billion to various United Nations agencies, with the World Food Program receiving the most ($ 1.9 billion). dollars), followed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees. in the Middle East ($ 955.5 million).

“Saudi Arabia provides bilateral assistance on the basis of a rigorous needs assessment to countries and institutions eligible to receive such assistance. Humanitarian and development projects are carefully identified and a risk assessment is carried out before funds are sent, ”Hamid told Arab News.

“Funding is also disbursed in installments linked to clear results. Monitoring and evaluation are carried out during the implementation period of the project to ensure that the aid reaches the beneficiaries and has the intended impact.

Among its many accomplishments, Saudi Arabia played a leading role in 2015 in shaping the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which primarily aims to reduce poverty by at least 50 percent of the population. ‘by 2030. From 2016 to October 2021, the Kingdom donated $ 24.04 billion. to low- and middle-income countries to enable them to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

A 2016 report from the United Nations Development Program noted that aid provided by Saudi Arabia between 2005 and 2014 represented 1.9% of its ODA / GNI, breaking the record for the highest percentage achieved by Saudi Arabia. a single donor.

In November 2020, as chair of the G20 summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was successful in mobilizing donors to commit significant funds to respond internationally to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Hamid’s report, the Kingdom’s international response to COVID-19 has amounted to more than $ 825 million managed by KSRelief, including vaccines, medical supplies and medical equipment for 33 countries.

Additional financial support of $ 10 million to the World Health Organization Solidarity Response Fund and approximately $ 300 million for vaccine research have been provided by the Kingdom.

Taken together, the records show that Saudi Arabia, whose politics have been guided by Islamic teachings since its founding, has contributed significantly to the well-being of over 150 countries for over 46 years (1975-2021 ) with assistance totaling $ 65.7 billion.

INNUMBERS

IN-COUNTRY ASSISTANCE TO “VISITORS”

Exemption from immigration fees $ 6.68 billion

Support for education 4.96 billion dollars

Free health care $ 4.37 billion

“The Kingdom is not a new donor. It has provided significant humanitarian and development assistance to many countries around the world, ”Hamid said, putting Saudi Arabia’s outsized contribution as an aid donor into perspective.

“However, in recent years, the aid provided by Saudi Arabia has been systematically documented and recorded on international aid platforms. In addition, there is a significant increase in the aid provided by the Kingdom to fight the pandemic and for emergencies to countries like Yemen, Somalia, Syria and Palestine. These are the factors that have contributed to the rise of Saudi Arabia’s global humanitarian rankings.

Last but not least, as the newspaper notes, Saudi Arabia is home to the sixth largest refugee population in the world. The 1.07 million refugees hosted by the Kingdom in recent years represent 5.5% of its population.

Unlike other countries that keep refugees in special camps, Saudi Arabia considers them visitors, grants them exemption from immigration fees, provides free health care and education to their children, and gives them permission to work.

This aid and support, contributing to the financial stability of visitors, amounted to $ 16.01 billion from 2011 to 2020.

A Mercedes-Benz ad posted on the Chinese social network Weibo was removed following a backlash over the model’s “slanted eyes”.

Chinese social media has been immersed in a mind-boggling debate over advertisements describing so-called Western beauty ideals for Asian women, including the use of makeup to create stereotypical ‘slanted eyes’.

Mercedes-Benz has reportedly removed a recent video ad posted to Chinese social network Weibo on December 25, after the brand was criticized for applying makeup to a model’s face to give her exaggerated slanted eyes. the New York Post reports.

“Is there beauty in this makeup?” Wrote a reviewer. “It’s not [open for] interpretation. No Chinese will think that kind of “beauty” is attractive, “added another.

The Chinese Communist Party World time said on Tuesday that the hashtag that translates to “Mercedes-Benz model’s makeup is controversial” has gained more than 170 million views on Weibo.

“The premise is that the Chinese cannot let the West shape our aesthetic,” wrote one reviewer, by World time.

“For these malicious slanderers, we must maintain sufficient vigilance and counterattack. “

The post office contacted Mercedes-Benz to confirm the information.

The luxury automaker is one of the latest in a string of controversies to take hold on Chinese social media, as critics lash out at Western brands for promoting stereotypes of Chinese beauty in their ads.

Earlier this week, Gucci was also called out for a new advertisement for a handbag that uses “discriminatory” Chinese characteristics.

Communication law professor Zhu Wei, Chinese University of Political Science and Law, said in a statement to the World time Regarding Gucci’s announcement, “This is extremely disrespectful to our culture. The disgust and revulsion expressed by the whole of society towards this kind of insult must be heard. “

His fellow fashion designer Dior apologized in November following an outcry over an advertisement for a handbag.

Beijing-based photographer Chen Man admitted his “immaturity and ignorance” in “perpetuating racial stereotypes” for the shoot, while the fashion house responded by saying it “respects the feelings of the Chinese people.”

It’s not just high-end brands that are said to be disconnected.

Last week, a model from Chinese snack brand Three Squirrels spoke out against detractors of the brand, asking, “Am I not Chinese?” Consumers bristled with an ad campaign unearthed from 2019 featuring model Cai Niang Niang, who some say was featured in the ad for her “slanting eyes” and posed with her hair in braids, which all play into 19th century Western stereotypes of Chinese people.

She wrote on Weibo on Sunday, according to the South China Morning Post, “With small eyes, am I not Chinese?” I totally agree with patriotism. However, creating big problems out of normal things has become a morbid obsession. Hope everyone can have a healthy mindset.

Parties! Parties! Parties! Like CGV planned in our April issue, it would not be long fun is making a comeback. After all, if the Belle Epoque and the Jazz Age have taught us anything, it’s that some of the most festive eras in history followed periods of difficulty. This year, a select group of high-society brides got the memo clearly, ushering in the return of dazzling multi-day weddings of utterly unbridled opulence and optimism. From a storybook-worthy western fairy tale set in a ghost town in Colorado (Lily Collins), to the backdrop of a gorgeous pink villa in the south of France (Issa Rae), to Bacchanalia of eccentric heiresses of Bel Air (Paris Hilton) and San Francisco (Ivy Getty), a closer look at the biggest marriages of 2021, below.

Let Paris Hilton close the 2021 wedding season with a dazzling bang and blinding bling. The multi-day event celebrating his union with venture capitalist Carter Reum began with the wedding itself on November 11, which took place at the former Bel Air estate of the late grandfather of the bride, Barron. Hilton. She wore a personalized Oscar de la Renta with pressed flower embroidery and a tulle ball skirt for the ceremony and had Three Dress changes for the tent reception: first an off-the-shoulder tulle dress by Galia Lahav, then an Oscar de la Renta minidress, and finally a floor-length Pamella Roland dress with sequins and cascading pearls . He kept it simple in an Ermenegildo Zegna navy silk tuxedo. The following night, the newlyweds and their guests took to the Santa Monica Pier for a carnival-themed neon bacchanal that she wore hot pink from head to toe (naturally). On the third and final night, he was back at the Bel Air Estate for another black tie party. This time, Hilton wore another personalized Oscar de la Renta number encrusted with sparkling crystal stars. And then of course, never left, her whole wedding planning process turned into a 13-part reality show, Paris in love, currently streaming on Peacock.

RIYAD: AlUla is hosting two world-class equestrian events for the second time in two years.

The premiere, The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Endurance Cup 2022, will take place on January 29.

This is a 120 kilometer endurance competition organized in cooperation with the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation.

Located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, AlUla is a place of extraordinary natural and human heritage. Both sporting events take place as part of the Winter at Tantora festival which takes place over the next six weeks.

The Endurance Cup will see more than 200 riders compete in one of the most exciting long distance horse races in the world. This is the third year that the tournament has been held, and over 15 million SR ($ 4.2 million) in prizes are offered.

The course lasts an average of eight hours and during this time some of the best riders in the world will ride through a variety of breathtaking landscapes. Both the horse and the rider need to be in great shape, as the race is physically and mentally demanding.

Last year, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum of F3 Stables won the competition.

Italia Endurance Stables & Academy has been appointed as the organizer of the Endurance Cup, under the leadership of Sports Director General Gianluca Laliscia and Event Director Brian Colin Dunn.

Dunn has a lot of praise for the historic location of the race.

He said: “The whole technical team is delighted to visit the magnificent AlUla desert, which has such a deep connection with the heritage of the Arabian horse and which is very close to our hearts. The welcome from the people, the passion and the expertise they have for our sport will undoubtedly make it an epic and joyful experience. “

During the second Winter Equestrian Event in Tantora, visitors will also be able to experience a large polo tournament held in the desert, organized in partnership with the Saudi Polo Federation.

Richard Mille AlUla Desert Polo will see four teams compete against each other from February 11-12 next year in a purpose-built arena near the ancient site of Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage site.

Participants will be a mix of guest patrons and professional players from the global polo community.

The players of the legendary La Dolfina Polo team will each lead a team. La Dolfina, who many consider the “perfect team”, have a handicap of 40 goals together and are the only team to have won three consecutive triple crowns: the Tortugas Open, the Hurlingham Open and the Open. Argentina, in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Recently, the Royal Commission for AlUla and La Dolfina polo team announced the establishment of a long-term partnership to promote the development of the sport in Saudi Arabia.

The agreement aims to make the historic city the number one destination for equestrian sports enthusiasts around the world.

Adolfo Cambiaso, founder of La Dolfina Polo, and someone considered the best polo player in history, has become an advocate for the AlUla destination.

“We are delighted to return to AlUla and play with other customers and players around the world,” he said. “Since the first edition of Desert Polo, it’s been great to see the interest in polo growing in the Kingdom, and we look forward to expanding the sport in newly explored regions such as AlUla.”

Amr Zedan, President of the Saudi Polo Federation, said: “We are very happy to welcome back the stars of La Dolfina Polo and the main patrons of polo this year from the United States, France and the United Kingdom. -United.

“The Saudi Polo Federation is working closely to support the Royal Commission for AlUla in developing a new equestrian strategy to continue to build on the region’s Arabian horse heritage.

“With daily flights to AlUla, we hope to see new polo enthusiasts grow in the Medina region and across the Kingdom.”

This will be the third Winter at Tantora festival where local and international visitors can enjoy traditional music, art, heritage, adventure, culture and food.

Besides the two equestrian events, there will also be a haute couture equestrian fashion event, the Ikmah Fashion Cavalry Show, “where horses meet high fashion”.

AlUla equestrian events are key pillars of a long-term strategy to promote AlUla as an international travel destination.

The plans of the Royal Commission include the development of important infrastructure and facilities, as well as equestrian trails and routes allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the majesty of the cultural landscape.

Tickets to attend the two Winter at Tantora equestrian events can be purchased from December 27 at www.experiencealula.com.

“To continue from this year, I’m going to go into 2022 making sure that comfort is at the heart of all my looks. I feel like Chloe’s Nama sneakers are a sign that the sneaker trend from designers are finally reaching a laid back and cool era – so much of the stuff we’ve seen in the past is garish and way too thick, so it’s great to see a chic and timeless style. “

To successfully reinvent your brand, you need to rethink your approach to the product, history, culture, and customer. Brand bounces often seem straightforward, logical, and inevitable when taught in business school classes and cited in the media. But few revival attempts are successful, and in the rare event that they are successful, it usually takes years or decades to show significant results.

Notable brands, such as Apple, Gucci and McDonald’s, have renewed their marketing strategy and successfully renewed customer interest. Each of these companies has succeeded by focusing on a new approach to the product, history, culture and customer. Fueled by organizational and operational changes, these four elements have become the pillars of a sustained recovery of brands.

Start with the product

Throughout Gucci’s 101-year history, the fashion retailer’s popularity has risen and fallen, and its business results have weakened and rebounded. Today, Gucci is the second largest luxury brand in the world. Its most recent revival began in 2015 with the appointments of CEO Marco Bizzarri and Creative Director Alessandro Michele. The changes they made in this first year – including a new creative vision, store renovations and enhanced digital offerings – resulted in an annual increase in revenue of 7.8%, an annual increase in operating profit of 21 , 7% and an increase of 86% from the first quarter online. sales compared to the same periods in 2015.

When Michele took charge of Gucci’s creation, he created the Gucci Look: an androgynous, hippie, rebirth of flowers and sequins, glamor and sequins, surprise and whimsy, subversion and expression. creative, accessories and prints reminiscent of equestrian motifs. Today, this maximalist neo-romantic look is instantly recognizable as the epitome of Gucci on the streets and on the catwalks. “I feel Gucci!” and “It’s so Gucci! Are part of our cultural lexicon.

Apple has undergone a similar product transformation. Shortly after returning to Apple in 1997, Steve Jobs called a meeting and lambasted his employees. “Do you know what’s wrong with this business?” ” he request. “The products suck. There is no more sex in them. This meeting would have inspired the invention of the iMac. In the first five months of the iMac’s existence, Apple sold 800,000 units, making a profit of $ 309 million in 1998 and $ 601 million in 1999. The iMac made its mark on the market. return to profitability.

Apple and Gucci have understood that a signature brand aesthetic is crucial for a brand revival. The more defined the aesthetic, the more curatorial it offers for design, merchandising and styling, and the more it allows these functions to align to deliver a new, shared brand experience. The aesthetic of an iconic brand translates into commodities, which are the purest distillation of what a brand is. For Gucci, those products are the GG Marmont and Soho bags, the Princetown slippers and loafers, the GG belt, the GG canvas print, and the 1970s-inspired suits and dresses. For Apple, those building blocks are the Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods.

These brand building blocks help focus updates. Every brand, no matter what products they sell, should develop building blocks like these as they attempt to rebuild their brand. Even fast food outlets offer signature products. McDonald’s offers the Big Mac, McNuggets, and fries, but struggled in the early 2010s as it tried to expand its menu to attract a larger audience. In 2015, McDonald’s reduces its menu offering and focuses on price and quality. The “less but better” decision helped McDonald’s sales to surpass $ 100 billion in 2019 and its operating margin to increase 43% year-over-year. Since focusing on commodities, McDonald’s market value has nearly doubled to $ 160 billion.

Refine your brand story

A clear and compelling brand story gives products context and storytelling, which can help increase their desirability. When a brand sells products, it sells a story. When consumers buy products, they buy into this story. History unifies the organization internally and streamlines decision making. He connects the brand’s editorial to its product collections, leads the design to incorporate narrative anchors (like a recognizable pattern, clasp, color or stitching) into products, and streamlines merchandising, style and design. marketing. Besides being a valuable brand motto, brand storytelling is also essential for customer acquisition and retention. Once consumers buy into a brand story, they are less likely to leave or change than when they simply buy a product.

When Michele took charge of Gucci’s creation, he immediately began to revolutionize the brand’s narrative. He changed the Gucci brand’s narrative from an overt focus on sexuality to a clearly defined, dreamlike and aesthetically excessive maximalist universe. Its story takes place in a world of secret gardens and mythical creatures. Crystals, frills, bright colors and baby dragons are all aspects of the Gucci brand. Its extremely creative, eclectic and inclusive world is systematically featured in stores such as the Gucci Garden, a museum-like experience inside the Palazzo della Mercanzia, which sells only unique items; Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura, a series of upscale contemporary restaurants; and its 483 other global stores. In 2016, following Michele’s appointment, sales in directly-operated stores increased 28.2% in the fourth quarter, with all regions performing well. The rapid growth in sales, Gucci’s fastest in the past 20 years, is directly linked to the new history of the Gucci brand.

Connect with pop culture

Cultural hooks reflect a brand’s role in the world and ensure its credibility with its target audiences. McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc has often said, “We’re not in the burger business. We are in show business. McDonalds recently collaborated with celebrities J Baldwin, Travis Scott and BTS on the “Famous Orders” collaboration, which named Value Meals after celebrities.

While the new and trendy ties to pop culture help revitalize struggling brands, the fastest way to get back to cultural relevance is for them to deconstruct what made the brand successful in the first place. The brand archives are a gold mine of beloved and often abandoned brand classics. As a brand grows and matures, it often overlooks the spark that started it all. Old favorites that are part of the brand’s tradition have the power to quickly re-engage both old and new fans by tapping into their real or invented nostalgia.

The Gucci 100 centenary campaign paid tribute to the brand’s history and its impact on pop culture. It featured an exclusive collection of items reminiscent of the brand’s fashion century. Gucci launched 100 pop-up stores and Spotify and Apple playlists featuring music that paid homage to the company’s enduring aesthetic. By evoking the brand’s themes through music, while mixing them with new and archival Gucci products, Gucci has built on its heritage and extended the life cycles of its products.

This strategy can help transport a brand’s story to the present and remind people of the product innovations that made the brand strong in the first place. But it’s not enough to just remix old products. Brands must pass this heritage on to new customers and modern values. Gucci recently launched Vault, a site where the brand mixes old favorites with new designers who emphasize Gucci brand values, such as diversity, gender neutrality and sustainability.

Know your customer

Apple, Gucci, and McDonald’s all had one thing in common when they began revitalizing their brand: They fully understood what their respective customers wanted. It is not always an easy undertaking. Companies have a lot of customer data, but they often lack customer knowledge. Customer data is found in different organizational functions that do not speak to each other, and when presented, it is usually difficult to digest and take action. To bridge this gap, brands need to create a customer framework that is directional, actionable, and speaks to multiple internal stakeholders at once. This framework translates quantitative data into qualitative information that is just as understandable to product designers as it is to media buyers, creatives, and merchandisers.

The first step in the process of creating an actionable customer framework is to focus on the key target customers and deepen their motivations and interests, their media habits and key influences, key points of purchase and barriers to lending. ‘purchase. Identify the top features they value, including attributes like fashion, functionality, comfort, and status signaling. It will be different for each brand, which is why it is essential that any brand attempting a return does this research before making any critical planning decisions.

Successful brand revival doesn’t happen in an instant. There is no shortcut. There is only one continuum of strategic, creative, and operational decisions that, if executed consistently, set a brand on the path to cultural relevance, consumer love, and business success. This story is much less exciting to tell, but much more effective in the long run.

If you follow men’s clothing, you may have seen J. Logan Home’s upcycled shed shirts swirling on the Internet. This summer, Logan Horne, a social staple whose fame dates back to his styling stints for Lindsay Lohan and Leighton Meester, launched a line of patchwork shirts for men from old Hermès, Gucci and Céline scarves. Although Horne is not affiliated with any of these luxury brands, that hasn’t stopped him from reusing their products: “I only use similar designers with similar designers,” he explains. Her pieces caught the attention of Dua Lipa, who in October sported a bucket hat made from a Chanel scarf and now Horne has ventured into the domestic market.

Launched yesterday via Moda Operandi (just in time for the holiday gifts!) is the J. Logan Home trunkshow, where you can find a collection of designer silk square-filled pillows and logo napkins wrapped around plush cubes, making it makes the perfect time by Slim Aarons’ pool. Speaking of Aarons, Horne’s company is headquartered in Palm Beach, where he deals with sourcing and manufacturing. So where, exactly, does he find all his textile treasures? “Literally everywhere,” he says. “As any collector knows, the thrill of the hunt is the best part! The internet obviously makes the search global, and a lot of great pieces come from where you’d expect: Japan, where pieces can be formal or wild but are generally in great condition, and France, where most of the stuff I do. am looking for original. But living in Florida might actually be everyone’s biggest perk, because it’s a vintage mecca. “

In this new collection, you’ll also find boxes of tissues and tiny ties, which Horne envisions the perfect bookmark for the reader who has everything and, of course, prefers paperbacks to Kindles. The look is preppy and colorful, and the irony of “recycling” high-end scarves in luxury decor is not lost on Horne. “I always try to approach it with lightness and humor,” he says of his quilting. “When we have seen as many scarves as I have, we have mastered the signatures of each house: Hermès makes beautiful equestrian and nautical themes; Chanel scarves are adorned with pearls and Gripoix jewelry; Gucci flowers are exquisite; Celine from the 70s and 80s can be totally overdone chains or very preppy; YSL has many stripes and tiny geometric patterns. Knowing the codes makes it easier.
