When shopping for new clothes I don’t like to think one season ahead – this year’s purchases must work for next year’s OOTDs! A wardrobe that I don’t have to constantly flip is important to me as a fashion editor, so thinking ahead of top 2022 fashion trends is essential to make sure I’m shopping smart. And luckily, I’m always ready to share my findings with the class!
After 2020 with no trend, 2021 has seen the resurgence of maximalism. And while many jokes have been made about the return of the roaring twenties, it was a groovy ’70s aesthetic that really took hold, as evidenced by the trippy technicolor prints, flared pants, and a more eclectic overall approach. of style.
Now that 2022 is in full swing, we’re keeping the same energy to make a statement, but we’re acting in a way that slightly more sober. We always say yes to bright colors, but solid neon hues trump horrific prints. And of course, we’re leaning towards comfortable fabrics and forgiving silhouettes instead of totally spending our time working from home in a sweat. Bring the quilt, but think less horse girl, more comfy bedding.
If you’re looking to shine, you’re in luck: glitter is another big trend that’s hitting every catwalk. And you don’t have to go to town to wear them! Everyday sequins will definitely be the norm, from sparkly skirts to sequined bodysuits and more.

Sandy Liang and Cynthia Rowley both sent sets to the runway with puffy feminine quilting that gave me a full quilt vibe. Talk about comfortable! Lightweight quilting will be a trend all year round, so don’t be afraid to pile on the puff for a less riding, more comfortable look. For now, however, a duvet cover will do just fine.
Le Duvet Puffer Shorts in Dark Rust
Babaton by Aritzia has tons of quilt styles to pack this season, and a cropped puffer jacket is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe.
Oversized down jacket in vegan leather with diamonds
The plush puff of this vegan leather puffer jacket makes it particularly comfortable despite the dressier fabric. In addition, it is available in eight colors.
Neon lights are back, baby! Fall / Winter 2021 will bring us to some saturated hues, but by 2022 we’ll be full of neon, so bring those eye-catching undertones of yellow, orange and green! Usually a summer trend, try wearing bright colors all year round for a sartorial serotonin boost. Sergio Hudson and Christian Siriano make it easy.
That yellow-green blazer paired with black leather pants and chunky platform loafers? Yes, a thousand times yes.
Ribbed Bodycon Dress with Lattice Edges
Leave it to Eloquii to give plus size fashionistas the dress of the season. This luminous bodycon is an absolute must for daytime or nighttime style.
All of a sudden, the faux fur is so yesterday and the feather trim is the new must-have. And you can dress it up or down! While Monique Lhuillier prefers opulent feathered dresses, Staud showed off feathered minis that proved the look is as good for happy hour as it is on the runway. From there was born the opportunity for feathered crop tops, bodysuits and accessories.
Ramona bustier top
A black cropped bustier trimmed with feathers for less than $ 70? The perfect 2022 Snag release top before it sells out.
If you want to raise the bar (and the price range), this LAMARQUE tube top brings the drama in four fun shades.
Rodarte and Brandon Maxwell made good use of the humble glitter on their 2022 runway shows, as did Michael Kors. At the end of the line ? 2022 will be a brightly encouraged year! You don’t have to keep the look for the holidays; instead, try mixing separate pieces and glittery accessories with your everyday basics.

The glitter trend is all about the drama, so of course big knots and belly cutouts are always encouraged.
