Habtoor Polo defends its title at the 2022 Bentley Emirates Silver Cup Final

The final part of the action at the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series Silver Cup tournament featured a spectacular finish at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

After a series of qualifying matches, four teams met in the expected final. CAFU’s Dubai Wolves took on Bangash Dodson & Horrell Polo in the Hildon Cup (subsidiary final) and Habtoor Polo met their match – UAE Polo – in the Bentley Emirates Silver Cup Final.

Alfredo Cappella opened the afternoon with a penalty shot for Wolves. The team had the first chukker as Carlos Ulloa and Capella closed it at 3 to 1.5. The next chukker didn’t see much Bangash Dodson & Horrell as it ended with a significant lead for Dubai Wolves by CAFU. It was raining goals in the third chukker. Bangash Dodson & Horrell made an aggressive comeback and Wolves showed equally solid defensive play.

CAFU’s Dubai Wolves still had their advantage at half-time. The next chukker rolled and Federico von Potobsky stole the lead only to be defended by Ulloa who kept the narrow half-goal advantage. in favor of Wolves It was a battle for victory in the final chukker, with Wolves giving their all. However, Benjamin Panelo assured that the two goals he scored were enough to earn their Hildon Cup trophy title.

The contenders for last year’s Silver Cup tournament met again in today’s final. Habtoor Polo team boss Mohammed Al Habtoor scored the first goal of the match. Tommy Beresford and Lucas Monteverde Jr. of UAE Polo made sure the lead was on their side at the end of the first chukker. Habtoor Polo returned to the scoreboard at halftime and the teams were tied at the end of the penultimate chukker. The defining chukker saw the spectators witness a notable save from Matias Gonzales for the Habtoor Polo team and a penalty shot from Bayugar which the opponent could not match. The match ended 9-7 and Habtoor Polo proudly lifted the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series Silver Cup trophy for the second year.

Martin Pedersen, President of the International Free Zone Authority presented the team trophies at the Hildon Cup. The top pony was Inunciado ridden by the tournament’s most valuable player – Bautista Bayugar.

Joseph Tayar, Managing Director of Bentley Emirates rewarded the teams during the Bentley Emirates Silver Cup Final. All players and teams received gifts from Vanessa Douglas, CEO of Plutas Trading, the distributor of Margy’s Monte Carlo, Valeur Absolue and Teami.
