Models Gigi Hadid at the Ralph Lauren Fall 2022 show
Gigi Hadid opened the Ralph Lauren Fall 2022 show at the Museum of Modern Art in a polished black monogram sweater layered over a white collared button-down shirt and tucked into matching pants. The model’s look gave a glimpse of the wardrobe the American fashion designer has dreamed up for our eventual return to the office and to life as we knew it before the pandemic. Perhaps that’s why he designed the set in the style of his Manhattan residence and his host of stars – including Angus Cloud, Lily Collins and Janelle Monáe – lounged on sofas and chairs. stylish chairs in black and white. Lauren is hoping for a party-filled future, and many of her models have come up with stylish dresses to match.
In fact, Hadid modeled one herself later in the show: a long-sleeved maxi dress with flirty cutouts at the midriff. More red carpet-worthy looks followed, including a jaw-dropping strapless red and black dress with a large trailing bow in the back. Bella Hadid also made an appearance on the catwalk, first in a belted suit ensemble featuring a houndstooth print blazer worn over a white button down collar and black turtleneck, then in an asymmetrical white column dress with a cutout at the shoulder.
Workwear was at the heart of the collection, which offered a sort of elevated office uniform. Think: tailored black-and-white suit separates — from pussy-bow blouses to double-breasted blazers and lapel coats — that would figure prominently on a dark academic mood board. Lauren’s take on her brand’s history has also resulted in several equestrian-appropriate looks, a series of Fair Isle sweater sets ideal for ski getaways, a timelessly elegant red carpet outfit and the final look – accessorized with a Yankees cap – was a nod to his childhood in the Bronx.
The fashion designer has stayed true to its roots, although its vision is now more inclusive after the racial reckoning of 2020. Through a partnership with two HBCUs, Spelman and Morehouse Colleges, the brand will continue to tell untold chapters centered on the black experience. .
