Mr. Joseph Grafius Stewart, 86, a longtime resident of Susquehanna Township, Lycoming County, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 21, 2022.

Born July 13, 1935 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late William Hepburn and the late Alvira (Fisher) Stewart. He graduated from Williamsport Schools and became a farmer and attended Penn State University for Agriculture for two years. He worked on the farm and later attended Lycoming College where he earned a BS in economics. He then returned to the farm and became an oil distributor. He developed his company, West Branch Petroleum Equipment Company, and later sold gasoline pumps and petroleum equipment. He then ventured into building gas stations and making awnings, selling industrial air compressors, and servicing and installing these items.

He was a member of the Covenant-Central Presbyterian Church in Williamsport. He was also a member of the former Ross Club of Williamsport. He loved horses and riding in competitions. He greatly enjoyed boating on the West Arm of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay; He was a member of the Pa. Petroleum Association.

He is survived by his wife, the former Margaretta Furst McCormick Stewart of Williamsport, two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Medcalf of Houston, Texas, and Valerie Aida Stewart of San Antonio, Texas; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He wished he could have spent more time with his grandchildren and family members.
