Pletcher gets another stakes win with Graceful Princess in Molly Pitcher E! News UK
Graceful Princess wins Molly Pitcher Stakes Grade 3 at Monmouth Park.
After securing a victory with Dr Post in the Monmouth Grade 3 Cup, coach Todd Pletcher continued that victory with another in the Molly Pitcher Grade 3 with Graceful Princess. Daughter of the 2011 Havre de Grace Horse of the Year, the 5-year-old bay mare improved her fifth place on her last start in the Obeah Stakes to win the G3 Molly Pitcher by three-quarter length at Monmouth Parc in Oceanport, NJ
Fourth out of the gate, Graceful Princess settled in early behind Ms. Danvers, Our Super Freak, and Bajan Girl, with Joel Rosario content to sit just outside the initial beat. Ms Danvers stretched her lead two lengths after the first half, with the top four horses retaining their position in the backstretch. Entering the last corner, Our Super Freak was led by Ms. Danvers, taking a short lead down the stretch.
As Ms. Danvers faded, Our Super Freak and Bajan Girl battled for the lead, with Graceful Princess running outside, eventually catching up with the two in the last half of the stretch. As they ran three times, Graceful Princess managed to find another gear and power ahead of Bajan Girl and a vanishing Our Super Freak to win in a final time of 1: 41.67 for G3 Molly Pitcher from 1-1 / 16 mile.
Graceful Princess paid $ 31.00, $ 10.80 and $ 6.20. Bajan Girl paid $ 4.60 and $ 3.40. Our Super Freak paid $ 3.40 to show.
Coach Todd Pletcher was delighted to see Graceful Princess clinch a victory on Saturday. “She had a few bad performances off the track so we weren’t sure (about her) other than that she came back and trained well. She’s always been a filly who trained like she could do something like that, so it’s great to see her put it all together. She is without doubt one of the best bred fillies on the planet (by Tapit and Horse of the year 2011 Havre de Grace). For her, winning a race like this is huge.
Jockey Joel Rosario knew he had a lot of horses in the G3 Molly Pitcher. “It’s always fun to ride for Todd. I don’t think she has run so well before, but today she was ready and she won a tough race and proved she was ready for this kind of business. The pace was perfect. I found a spot outside and she was clear and it seemed like she enjoyed being there. After that, that was all her. She looked like she was having fun there. It was a very good performance. I arrived today thinking I had a few chances (he swept all three level 3 stakes on the map, winning the WinStar Matchmaker, Monmouth Cup and Molly Pitcher) but you don’t know. You have to have the right horses.
Raised and owned by Whisper Hill Farm, Graceful Princess is by Tapit and Horse of the Year 2011 Havre de Grace, by Saint Liam. The G3 Molly Pitcher is her first win in three starts in 2021, for a career-high three wins in 13 starts and $ 261,474 in career earnings.
