Rally call for organizations to register for the Royal Carnival of a community in Wigan
On Friday June 3, Standish will host a grand ‘Best of British’ party at Thompson House Equestrian Center to mark 70 years of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s reign.
But the day begins at 1 p.m. with a procession through the streets, and now that organizers have obtained permission from the council to close some roads, they are appealing to local organizations to join them.
Businessman Martin Ainscough, who is overseeing the event, said: ‘Now is the time to shout out loud when we ask all kinds of community organisations, whether they are faith groups, theater amateur, scouts and guides and musical groups to join the parade.

“We want to see some of them decorate floats – and if some are having difficulty getting vehicles I hope I can help them – but others may want to march as a group. We already have a few marching bands signed up, but there’s room for more and it would be great if some people wore fancy dress, whether it’s 50s outfits, circus performers or patriotic reds, whites and blues.
“We haven’t had a carnival in Standish for a long time so we want this one to be spectacular and memorable.”
Attendees would meet in the industrial area of Bradley Hall at noon on the big day.
