Saturday Horse Racing Tips & Best Betting 5/02/2022 [Caulfield, Randwick + more]

Tips, best bets and best value picks for Saturday’s races, including picks for Caulfield, Randwick, Doomben, Morphettville & Pinjarra February 5.

Race 9 n°2 – tuvalu

On what is a tricky map, Tuvalu (2) is shaping up to be a great bet in the latter. He’s better than the BM78 grade, so he certainly deserves every bit of his 61kg here. Gelding Lindsey Smith was just 0.5L off I’m Thunderstruck three backs, before recording dominant back-to-back wins at Sandown and Warrnambool. The horse he beat in the last start at Zoltan came out and won his next start by 2L.

Lindsey Smith
4 years (b) Kermadec x Hangin’ Tough

Race 8 n°4 – Paulele

Paulele (4) has been popular in early bets and rightly so. He tremendously won the first campaign of the last campaign in the Rosebud by beating In The Congo and Remarque.

Kerrin McEvoy (59 kg)
James Cummings
3 years (ch) Dawn Approach x Shimmering

Race 6 #5 – Grace Bay

Claire Lever brought GRACE BAY (5) from NSW where she regularly ran in company midweek. This form is good enough for that and it just needs a positive run from 3kg claimant Cejay Graham to make it to the finish.

Cejay Graham (55kg)
Claire Lever
5 years (b) Per Incanto x Lucky We Leica

Race 9 #1 – Yulong Justify

Yulong Justify (1) was dominant at the last start from Murray Bridge and can repeat the dose in a fairly moderate matter. Madison’s 3kg claim helps, but the Apprentice might need a lucky touch from barrier nine.

Madison Lloyd (62kg)
Tony and Calvin McEvoy
4 years (ch) Tycoon writes x Rossa Mia

Race 3 No.4 – Kings Full

Kings Full (4) should have been placed in BM84 grade here at the last start. He faced a strangely indecisive run from Meech and was then narrowed for space late in the race as he had just passed for 3rd. It was still a solid effort and he will strip down for this long trip. Although he has yet to win this trip, he has not been beaten far – 3.1L, 2.15L and 0.75L. New racer Declan Bates can either lead or sit right next to the leader from the inside aisle.

Declan Bates (58kg)
Aaron Purcell
6 years (b) Galileo x Half Queen

Race 2 n°18 – Boncassie

Very deep highway with a stack of chances. Given that, I’m not overly confident, but I’m going with Boncassie (18) e/w. She is a progressive filly with only seven starts to her credit. She was a huge wanderer on the restart at Port Mac, but had a strong run for second place after going deep throughout. She has shown good kicking in a few races where she is in the lead.

Tim Clark (54kg)
Brett Bellamy
3 years (b) Bon Hoffa x Flying Cassie

Race 7 #11 – Safework

A few contenders here and I’m on a limb with SAFEWORK (11) who has only won one of 23 starts but has run a few races in better company than this, the most recent being a close fifth at Wisdom Of Water in the Magic Millions QTIS 1300m race. His only win came here, Plate’s terms are suitable and now fourth he will get the shot with Boris Thornton.

Boris Thorton (56kg)
Scott Morrisey
4 years (br) Spirit of Boom x Ossie’s Secret

Race 1 n°6 – Japery

Japery (6) is yet to win in two 1400m starts but raced second behind Foxy Frida and fourth ahead of I’m Thunderstruck at Flemington in the final build. That bodes well for that. Draw barrier three and look at the one to beat.

Angus Chung (54kg)
Patrick Payne
4 years (b) Sizzling x Andromeda
