LONDON (Reuters) – British luxury brand Burberry returned to the London catwalk on Friday with its first in-person fashion show in two years, showcasing menswear and womenswear collections that celebrated British culture.

Following the digital presentations of previous seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, creative director Riccardo Tisci said he mixed different vibes for the Fall/Winter 2022 lines, playing with the classic camel trench looks of the brand.

“It was important for me to explore what it means to belong, how our roots influence who we are, and how the power of community and togetherness is what really gives meaning to the world,” he said in a statement, also paying tribute to London.

“The collection embodies an intangible essence that is Britishness, a unique fusion of honoring the beauty of the past, while remaining focused on the future with gratitude, hope and love.”

The models wore trench coats with chain detailing, country-style outerwear, jumpsuits, detailed plaid skirts and twin sets paired with tall, tight platform boots.

The brand’s classic plaid print in camel, red and black appeared on dresses and pleated skirts, while Tisci used Burberry’s equestrian knight motif and oak leaf crest as prints or embellishments.

For the evening, he reinvented a trench coat into a strapless dress, proposed feather-trimmed dresses and black velvet shirts worn with long skirts and tuxedo jackets. Shiny metals decorated some designs.

Men’s fashions included tailored puffer jackets, bombers and jackets, high-waisted trousers with corset-like laces, rugby shirts and sweaters with embellishments.

Some outfits had off-the-shoulder yokes — faux fur, shearling, or rib-knit. Accessories included baseball caps.

Rillito Park Racecourse opened its doors last weekend after a year of closure due to COVID – and had to deal with four horse deaths in that first weekend. Rillito’s situation points to a problem that haunts horse racing in general.

There is a lot of horse racing history at Rillito Park. Horses are racing again after a break due to COVID, but this weekend four horses got into trouble there and ended up being put down.

Quarter horses are the dragsters of the horse world, famous for their blistering speed over a quarter mile or less. Rillito Park has been operating quarter horses for almost 80 years. COVID forced the park to take a year off. The first weekend back drew large crowds but four horses had to be put down: three due to injuries on the track, one due to a freak accident where it reared, fell and fell broke his neck.

Rory Goree’ chairs the Arizona Racing Commission. He saw the injured horses at Rillito. He says he speaks for himself, not the commission when he calls for reforms like high-tech X-rays to regularly screen horses before they race and fewer races so horses have more time to rest.

He says a lot of tracks have issues and as for Rillito:

“I felt they had done the best job possible. But if the horses that come to run are running too much or have pre-existing conditions. You could have the best track surface in the world. You’re still going to have a lot of breakdowns because the horses are going flat out.

Rillito says it goes beyond working towards a safe trail. He has an equine wellness program that checks a database to see if the horse had an old injury and then watches for signs that the injury might be getting worse.

Assistant track manager Elisabeth Carter comments on welfare.

“I take notes and we focus on that during the exam. And so every horse is flexible and they are put into a trot and we check them for any lameness issues in the morning. Every horse is checked, every horse ran on the same surface, so it’s an even playing field.

Dr. Mary Scollay spent 30 years as a racetrack veterinarian for racetracks and for regulatory bodies. She says leads have an important role in keeping horses safe, but everyone who works with the horse has a responsibility to note any injuries that could become dangerous – especially the trainer who should not be afraid to tell the owner when a horse should not run.

“Some owners, you know, make that very clear. You do what’s best for the horse and I’ll be happy. Other people may express performance expectations that their advocacy for the horse is conditional: “I need this horse to pay its share. I cannot continue to train this horse. He must run. He needs to earn a check”.

Mike Weiss also manages Rillito and other tracks. He says he longs for safety but understands that horses and riders face powerful forces.

“These are athletes who are fragile athletes. They’re going 40 miles an hour. And you know, you have a 1200-pound athlete, going 40 miles an hour with a 115-pound athlete on top of them, you know, tight turns and everything, but they know their stuff. They are professionals, and when they do their best to keep everyone safe. We just had a few unfortunate incidents and I hope to get over that soon.

Rory Goree says tracks everywhere must reduce equine deaths.

“We need to make changes to the rules. We need to invest money in proper equipment if we want to keep doing this, otherwise our end is very near.

Organizers are following COVID protocols so everyone can enjoy the sale as they have for over 80 years.

RED BLUFF, Calif. – Tuesday, the first day of the 81st The annual Red Bluff bull and gelding sale was held at the Tehama District Fairgrounds.

The event will last until Saturday and will be full of a variety of events to accompany the sale of hundreds of working bulls, horses and dogs.

People from all over the western United States came to the fairgrounds to settle in for the busy week.

After seeing a drop in attendance and profits over the past two years due to COVID-19, the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale hopes to return to normal this year.

BJ Macfarlane is the manager of Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale and says that although the event is mostly outdoors, the organization is following COVID guidelines to ensure everyone has a safe week.

Macfarlane is happy to bring the sale back to Red Bluff and hopes if the sale can return to normal it will help surrounding businesses.

“This community needs these events to be successful and stay in business, especially after the past two years,” Macfarlane said. “The community supports this event 300% which is great and fun to work with this community on this event.”

Tuesday was also a preparation day for vendors to set up their booths for the trade show that takes place throughout the week.

Vendors at the event sell items such as clothing, food, handmade crafts, farming equipment, and more.

Vera Adams had a stand at the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale for just over a decade.

She said COVID has been tough for all vendors, but most are finding ways to bounce back after two tough years.

“The rebound from that, I think, has been very strong for most small businesses,” Adams said. “I think for some people it’s still been difficult, but we’ve seen an increase in sales over the past few months, so it’s been promising and we’ll see how it goes in the future.”

The full sale begins Wednesday and includes the opening of the Tehama County Cattlewomen Western Art Exhibit and a youth raffle that supports a variety of community youth organizations and high school rodeo competitions.

A week-long schedule of all events can be found here.

ADELLA HARDING Elko Daily Correspondent

ELKO – Elko County Commissioners have approved about $ 4.98 million in American Rescue Plan Act grants to six of 21 grant applicants, with the Spring Creek Association receiving the largest share – nearly $ 2 million. dollars.

Elko Lions Club receives $ 750,000, Spring Creek Ambulance Station $ 550,000, City Jackpot $ 500,000, Silver State Stampede $ 379,506 and Elko County Fair Board $ 300,000.

The grants come from the nearly $ 10.25 million in federal rescue funds allocated to Elko County.

“We received the first semester, $ 5,125,754, in 2021 and plan to receive the second semester later this year,” said Elko County Manager Amanda Osborne. “I think we will follow a similar process for the second round of funding. However, we are waiting for the receipt of funds to make formal decisions. “

The new chairman of the Elko County Commissioners Council, Delmo Andreozzi, told the council on January 5 that a task force had assessed the 21 candidates and narrowed the list to six. The commissioners choose a new president at the start of each year.

Commissioner Rex Steninger said the commissioners were “all adamant” that the approved grants would benefit unincorporated areas of the county, as cities receive separate rescue funds. The town of Elko gets the most, $ 27.5 million.

The claims of the 21 claimants totaled $ 11.99 million.

Spring stream

The Spring Creek Association’s request was to support “continued recovery efforts in response to the impacts of the past year and a half,” and the request indicates that the Spring Creek community and businesses continue to experience financial difficulties.

The app said “small businesses were facing closures or lost revenue, leaving people unemployed. Distance education has been “hit and miss” for families, creating frustration and difficulty as they have to make the decision to quit their jobs to stay home with the kids and try to make ends meet.

The main part of Spring Creek’s proposal is to update the Horse Palace to increase tourism, as well as so that the Horse Palace can be designated an emergency site. “Costs have increased since our initial projection: $ 1.88 million,” says the app.

The SCA made a presentation to county commissioners last September for rescue funds which estimated the Horse Palace update at $ 1.6 million, and the proposal at the time sought nearly $ 2.82 million. total dollars in rescue funds.

The county put that application on hold and then set up the application process for the bailout fund grants.

SCA’s request also states that funding for government services would include $ 204,600 for animal control and $ 57,000 for route marking over a three-year period, as well as $ 90,000 for improving the quality of animal control. marina water for downstream users.

The association’s plans outlined in its request include meeting all public health needs to counter the spread of COVID-19 through paid sick, family and medical leave for employees, $ 21,985, and purchasing personal protective equipment and disinfectant for public spaces and other facilities, $ 6,800.

Camp Lamoille

The Elko Lions Club plans to use its $ 750,000 grant to continue rebuilding Camp Lamoille, stating that a “fully restored and modernized Camp Lamoille will increase tourism and travel, bringing increased prosperity and widespread appeal to the region. Elko County “.

The request reports that Camp Lamoille “suffered two devastating hits, the Range Two Fire at the end of 2018, which destroyed many buildings, including our lodge, then COVID-19”.

The club said the pandemic was having “a significant negative impact on our ability to rebuild the camp,” due to the high costs of building materials and a shortage of materials, so funds generated after the fire did not occur. were not sufficient.

“Social isolation and limited social interactions have effectively blocked our further fundraising efforts in 2020 and 2021,” Lions Club wrote, adding that benefactors saw their ability to give affected by the loss of personal income. and business due to the pandemic.

The request is for $ 400,000 for a dining area in the lodge, $ 200,000 for an additional campsite and $ 150,000 for cabins and storage.

Other grants

The town of Jackpot near the Idaho border was one of the hardest-hit communities in Elko County due to COVID-19, when casinos were closed and gambling traffic stopped .

“The shortage of available housing (and housing in general) has been exacerbated by COVID-19, forcing many residents to relocate outside the community and travel to Jackpot for work. The city of Jackpot is working on public-private partnerships to meet the most immediate needs ”, specifies the summary of the candidacy.

Jackpot’s $ 500,000 grant is for affordable housing, but is less than the $ 2 million requested, according to the list of 21 requests, ranging from government like Jackpot and Spring Creek Ambulance Station to events. nonprofits, organizations such as Head Start and businesses.

The county planned to staff an ambulance in Spring Creek before the pandemic struck “to allow better service to Spring Creek and surrounding communities,” the summary said.

The $ 550,000 ambulance grant “would allow for the construction of additional space and necessary facility upgrades to house a crew and necessary supplies at the Spring Creek Fire Hall,” the explanation said.

The Silver State Stampede plans to use its grant of $ 379,506 to purchase two portable bleachers that could be used by all events at the Elko County Fairgrounds, not just the rodeo, for an estimate of $ 213,506; and for the new lighting of the new bleachers site, $ 50,000.

The funds would also be used to replace enclosures that would be lost due to the new bleachers, $ 16,000 and $ 80,000 would be used for long-term planning for economic growth, such as reaching 7,000 seats and addressing distancing issues. social. And $ 20,000 would be used to cover lost income due to the pandemic.

“A lot of the spending for the rodeo is needed long before we sell tickets to the rodeo, and the seed fund balance in our account is what makes this possible,” the request says, also indicating that the Silver State Stampede had not received any COVID-19 relief funding so far.

The Elko County Fair Board wrote that the Elko County Fair was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19, and the loss of income from not having the fair and not having horse races in 2020 was a “huge loss to the Elko County Fair, as well as the community.”

The $ 300,000 grant would allow the board of directors to raise racing purses to attract more horses, and “more horses means more races and that means a lot of spectators, local and outside.” Without the grant, the show’s board of directors wrote that it might be forced to reduce the number of races.

The Commissioners previously approved $ 250,000 each to the Elko Boys & Girls Club and the Great Basin College Monoclonal Antibody Therapy Clinic from rescue funds.

For Al-Hilal, 2021 has been near perfect.

In May, the Riyadh giants beat title rivals Al-Shahab to claim the Saudi Pro League title for a record 17th time. Six months later, South Korea’s Pohang Steelers were beaten 2-0 in front of more than 50,000 elated fans to claim a second AFC Champions League title in three years and a record-breaking fourth continental crown.

Between May and November, Moussa Marega joined FC Porto and the much-requested Matheus Pereira arrived from West Bromwich Albion to reinforce an already strong squad. In short, the weather was fine in Riyadh.

Still, clouds have gathered on the horizon in recent weeks and this stellar year is likely to end in a trough.

Al-Hilal lost 3-2 to Al-Fateh at home on Friday and have taken just two points in the last four league games. If the conquering Blues fail to pull themselves together quickly, the national championship risks slipping away from them – and that means problems for coach Leonardo Jardim, no matter what happened earlier.

When Al-Hilal beat Pohang on November 23, some warned of the dangers of a domestic hangover from continental efforts, but no one expected a team that had gone 18 games unbeaten, with 13 of those wins, stumbles over such a stretch. There would still be work to be done at the national level given the games missed due to the Asian race, but it was almost seen as given that the talented squad would soon be back in the middle of the title race.

There were two draws with Abha and Al-Feiha. Al-Hilal looked a bit lackluster and short of ideas for the future, but that was okay as the season was not yet halfway through. But then came the losses to rivals Al-Nassr and now Al-Fateh, the club’s first successive league losses since 2016. Both were deserved.

If Al-Hilal doesn’t end 2021 on a winning note against Al-Faisaly on New Years Eve, then this downgrade will become a crisis in its own right. After the last loss, coach Jardim admitted his players struggled to deal with opposition physically and were slower on the second ball. He also highlighted individual mistakes, such as the missed opportunities by Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari.

These are comments fans may find a little worrying from the manager of Asia’s best team. The Portuguese coach, appointed in June, also reminded supporters that he was deprived of the suspended Pereira, midfielders Salman Al-Faraj and Mohamed Kanno, as well as the versatile Nasser Al-Dawsari.

Yet the in-depth strength available to the former Monaco boss is such that he was able to leave last season’s top scorer, Bafetimbi Gomis, on the bench, a player who would enter most of the starting XI in Asia.

Al-Fateh was also understaffed, with six players unavailable due to COVID-19 and two other injuries. In fact, it was so bad that the club demanded that the game be rescheduled, a request which was denied by league officials. Worrying for Jardim, the fact that his counterpart Yannick Ferrara managed his absences much better has been noted at length by critics.

Surprisingly, Al-Nassr’s bitter rivals, who have known coach after coach in a bid for success, have now overtaken Al-Hilal in the standings, in part due to a derby victory earlier this month. and Saturday’s victory over Al-Hazem. Meanwhile, leader Al-Ittihad is now eight points ahead of Al-Hilal and will soon be reinforced by the arrival next week of Abderrazzak Hamdallah, the league’s top scorer in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. . Despite Al-Hilal’s wealth of firepower, six teams found the target multiple times.

If Al-Hilal struggled to return to national concerns after a recent Asian success, other issues could arise. On February 6 there is the small affair of their opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup. Win that and there will be a huge clash against Chelsea three days later in a tournament the club will want to take seriously in front of a worldwide audience. Shortly thereafter, the AFC Champions League 2022 will begin.

There is still plenty of time this season but Al-Hilal cannot afford to let the gap widen and need to improve both in terms of performance and results. The club consider themselves the best team in Saudi Arabia to be the “bread and butter” of their brand. No one claims the title every year, but any coach will be hard pressed to survive if Al-Hilal fails to even challenge him. For the most successful team in Saudi Arabian and Asian history, storm clouds suddenly appeared in a completely blue sky.

Melbourne Cup Day at Frenchville Sports Club saw the best dressed from Rockhampton attend the function.

Today’s view

The Melbourne Cup – this big race takes place on the first Tuesday in November and is Australia’s best recognized horse race. First held in 1861 by the Victorian Turf Club, this two-mile handicap race was introduced to show off their rival, the Victorian Jockey Club.

Archer was the first racehorse to win the cup and supported it again in 1862.

He was followed by equally big winners, Carbine in 1890, Phar Lap in 1930, Peter Pan in 1932 and 1934, Rain Lover in 1968 and 1969, Might and Power in 1997 and the great Makybe Diva in consecutive wins in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Bart Cummings, the master horse trainer, won the most cups with 12.

Phar Lap, commonly referred to as the People’s Champion has been the cheapest winner in cup history to date, with odds of 8/11 and there have been four horses that have won with odds of 100 / 1, these being The Pearl in 1871, Wotan in 1936, Old Rowley in 1940 and the Prince of Penzance in 2015.

The Melbourne Cup is one of the richest and most prestigious horse races in the world and in Australia its ranking is as it is called the race that stops the nation. Attendance at the inaugural cup was 4,000 people and the highest attendance recorded was in 2003 with 122,736 patrons. In 2021, due to covid restrictions, the number of spectators was capped at 10,000.

The number of 100,000 people attending the Melbourne Cup was first exceeded in 1923 and, for the most part, has consistently exceeded 100,000 for over 90 odd years.

If you can’t attend the event in Melbourne, there are plenty of Melbourne Cup nights across the country.

It would be rare to find a community or place that wouldn’t celebrate this race, a lunch with friends, a reason to wear your best outfit and enjoy. To help celebrate a half-day public holiday was granted to officials in 1865, then officially published in 1873.

This race is so ingrained in the Australian psyche that it is considered a badge of honor to have chosen the winner of the annual cup. Most know a non-bettor who will back each horse for a dollar up for grabs, just so they can declare they’ve picked the winner. For one week per year, the opening question for most conversations will start with “who do you like in the cup” or “did you pick the winner”?

Where placing money on the outcome of a horse race is generally seen as a game, that race changes that, betting on the Melbourne Cup is one thing to do. The Melbourne Cup sweep also became a stable schedule for most businesses this first Tuesday in November, along with fashion shows and cold chicken lunches.

This three-minute race held at 3 p.m. AEDST would be one, if not the most watched event on Australian television each year and reinforces the fact that the people of this great nation love their sport.

The Northeastern Forest Products Equipment Exposition, also known as the Loggers’ Expo, arrives in Bangor. The Expo will be held at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday September 24 and Saturday September 25. The doors will open at 9 a.m. each day. The Expo alternates between Bangor during odd years and Essex Junction, Vermont during even years.

Northeastern Loggers’ Association chief executive Joseph Phaneuf said everyone was excited about this year’s Expo in Bangor. He said that after last year’s show was canceled due to COVID, everyone is anxiously waiting for things to get back to normal this year.

“We are very happy to be able to organize an Expo this year,” said Phaneuf. “Last year’s show in Vermont was canceled and our original dates for this show in May didn’t work out. I think the entire forest products industry in Maine and beyond will be excited to come together and celebrate something that is almost normal.

According to Phaneuf, a crowd of 5,000 to 7,000 people are expected to attend the two-day show. He said they look forward to welcoming a variety of people from the forestry industry, including loggers, sawyers, firewood workers, truckers, equipment operators and anyone else interested in l forestry industry. Participants are expected to come from across Maine, New Hampshire and beyond. In the past, they have had participants from Eastern Canada, but their participation will depend on the lifting of border restrictions.

“I expect that we will welcome large and enthusiastic crowds this year,” said Phaneuf.

Numerous indoor and outdoor exhibitions

In the past, the Loggers’ Expo has hosted over 200 exhibitors. There was a mix of live demonstrations and static exhibits, both indoors and outdoors. They typically feature a variety of equipment from forest products to lumber, trucks and trailers, firewood splitters and portable sawmills, Phaneuf said. There will be products and services of interest to the forest products industry, as well as to the homeowner who might be interested in wood heating, he said.

“The evolution of forest products equipment is underway,” Phaneuf said. “Equipment, for many years, has been growing with huge productivity gains being the target, so there will likely be something new to see in this area. “

Newspaper loading contest

A popular activity, featured at other exhibitions, was the annual log loading competition sponsored by Weiler Forest Equipment and Milton-CAT. The competition will be held again at this year’s Expo, Phaneuf said.

Heavy equipment

When it comes to equipment used in the logging industry today, The Northern Logger and Woodworking Editor-in-Chief Eileen Townsend said the logging industry has changed a lot over the years.

“A typical logging operation involved workhorses,” Townsend said. “In the past, a small operation involved a chainsaw and a cable skidder. Those people are still there, but we also have a range of other heavy equipment used in the industry – feller bunches, grapple skidders, cut-to-length fellers, heavy chippers and chippers.

According to Townsend, much of the equipment on display at the Expo is “a big iron for fully mechanized loggers who run what are called complete tree systems or cut-to-length systems, according to Townsend. the terrain and the markets with which they deal ”. The equipment market is driven by what lumberjacks have for lumber, Townsend said, and the big companies that make equipment for forest products “always drive innovation.” Regulations are also responsible for some changes in the types of equipment on the market, she said.

“Industrial engine emissions regulations have changed so that some of the newer equipment has streamlined engines that are both more efficient and more environmentally friendly,” Townsend said.

Many companies represented

As in the past, many large companies such as John Deere, Komatsu and Ponsse will be represented at the Expo. Freightliner of Maine President / CFO Tracy Thibodeau said they will be showcasing OEM Freightliner products as well as Alliance aftermarket products “to better equip hard-working trucks.” They will adapt their displays to the heavy-duty and lumber markets to match the theme of the show, she said.

One of the newer pieces of equipment Freightliner will be showcasing, Thibodeau said, is the Western Star 49X heavy tractor that just went into production last year. She said it has a very extensive list of possible configurations and will be a serious competitor in the heavy-duty market.

“We will also have a few heavy spec Freightliner tractor units, as well as dump trucks that are used in logging and construction applications,” said Thibodeau. “Our stand is normally staffed with parts and truck sales representatives who will also have documentation as well as advertising material. “

Freightliner Open House

In addition to their exhibit at the Expo, Thibodeau said Freightliner will be holding an open house at its Bangor dealership (located at 422 Perry Road) at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 24. She said they will have a meal, with vehicles and products on display. Sales representatives and staff will be present to answer questions.

“This helps make the customer experience as complete as possible for their weekend visit to the region! Said Thibodeau.

Registration & Presence

To learn more about the show, email expo@northernlogger.com or call (315) 369-3078. The show is scheduled for Friday September 24 and Saturday September 25 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Apple Valley City Council will discuss a short list of agenda items on Tuesday, including accepting a plot plan and building a new bathroom in a local park.

City Council will consider awarding a contract to TSR Construction for $ 181,900 for the toilet project at Mendel Park, 21860 Tussing Ranch Road.

The fenced park is located at the southern end of Apple Valley and currently features portable toilets, a large shade structure, tables, a grill, fitness stations, and a basketball court.

The park also offers playground equipment and training grounds for baseball, soccer and football.

Funding from the 2018-19 Community Development Block Grant will cover costs associated with building the new toilets, according to city documents. The project includes the laying of a new concrete slab and the installation of electricity and water pipes, a septic tank, a leaching system and plumbing. The work will also allow for a concrete walkway, the removal of a tree, the planting of a new tree and the installation of the prefabricated toilets.

On September 7, the city received two offers for the project, which the Parks and Recreation Department announced in July. TSR Construction submitted the lowest bid of $ 181,900, while Chaffee Construction placed at $ 280,600.

City council is also expected to accept the final map for subdividing 3.4 acres of land into two parcels on the east side of Central Road, just north of Waalew Road.

The plaintiff is businessman Chris Hitt, owner of Hitt Plumbing Co. located on Route 18 in Apple Valley.

The Planning Commission reviewed and approved the provisional plot map on May 5 for the unidentified Hitt project. A six foot wide rescue trail easement will be provided along the eastern boundary of the property in accordance with city multi-use and equestrian trail standards.

City council will also consider a resolution declaring November Veterans and Military Families Appreciation Month.

During the month, the city plans to recognize and honor its veterans, as well as the men and women of military families who serve the community, according to a staff report.

Military Families Appreciation Month was established in 1996 by the Armed Services YMCA and has been recognized annually by a presidential proclamation making November National Veterans and Military Families Month.

Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Apple Valley Town Hall Council Chamber, 14955 Dale Evans Parkway. The meeting can also be viewed online at www.AppleValley.org.

Occupancy at city council meetings is limited to 50% on a first come, first served basis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public comments can be forwarded during the meeting or sent by email to publiccomment@applevalley.org by noon on the day of the meeting.

Covid-19 restrictions could mean Canterbury’s biggest horse racing week of the year could be closed to most punters for the first time in 117 years.

Although organizers have confirmed today that the races will take place, that cannot promise that the public will be allowed to attend.

Addington Raceway CEO Brian Thompson said this afternoon that Addington Cup week will go ahead, but the public will be completely shut out unless the region is lowered to Tier 1 restrictions.

At alert level 2, events can take place but with restrictions.

Events and event facilities – for example, stadiums, cinemas and casinos can accommodate a maximum of 100 people in any defined indoor or outdoor space.

Addington Cup Week 2021 kicks off with IRT New Zealand Trotting Cup Day on Tuesday 9 November.

Show Day races are scheduled for Friday November 12.

Tickets were due to go on sale this week, but have been suspended due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Thompson said the decision to suspend was due to a lack of certainty the venue will be able to be opened to the public.

“The races will continue, but if the country is still subject to mass gathering restrictions, it will not be possible to make Cup Week an event accessible to the public,” he said.

“We are planning an Alert Level 2 event, where we can safely accommodate the racing industry in groups of 100 people in different parts of our facilities, with the ability to scale up if we upgrade. alert 1 without restrictions on mass gatherings, before October 19. “

“Bring to level 1”

He said if the region was still at Level 2, it would be the first time in 117 years that the event had failed to reach its full public capacity.

He said if a Tier 1 change was announced after October 19, there wouldn’t be enough time to prepare for a full-scale Cup Week event, as Canterbury and New Zealand know and love it.

“At this point, under the current restrictions, all hospitality packages, tickets for The Edge Public Village, Lindauer Lawn and Punters Lounge, as well as Show Day tickets for Spectators Bar have been suspended,” he said. -he explains.

“The Crossing Fashion Starts Here contest will be held online this year, with details available in mid-October.”

The IRT is the main sponsor of Tuesday’s race and manager Richard Cole has said he hopes the event will run below level 1 “so that one of the most valuable racing days in the country can be open to all New Zealanders “.

“While at Level 2, the IRT looks forward to welcoming industry participants to a safe environment and celebrating the exceptional quality of racing which is always at the forefront on the most prestigious race day of races under. harness, ”he said.

Thompson said he was hopeful he could bring “two amazing days of racing” to Canterbury, as was tradition.

“We thank you for your patience as we go through these uncertain times and we will keep you informed as the alert levels evolve,” he said.

Tickets have also been delayed for Canterbury Jockey Club Riccarton Park Cup week in November, including the traditional Saturday race meeting.

“The Canterbury Jockey Club has chosen to delay the release of tickets for the New Zealand Cup reunion (November 6, 10, 13) from the proposed date of September 1,” he recently posted on the official site.

“Although the Canterbury area has entered Covid-19 level 2, this level, while allowing race days to unfold, excludes the presence of a large crowd.

“The club will monitor the situation and release the ticket when it is realistic to expect us to operate at Level 1 in November, as we were last season when a limit of 15,000 attended New Zealand. Cup Day. “

The best and worst looks of the 2021 Met Gala https://ohalloranco.com/the-best-and-worst-looks-of-the-2021-met-gala/ https://ohalloranco.com/the-best-and-worst-looks-of-the-2021-met-gala/#respond Thu, 23 Sep 2021 22:15:39 +0000 https://ohalloranco.com/the-best-and-worst-looks-of-the-2021-met-gala/ [ad_1] After more than a year of waiting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Met Gala 2021 took place last week on September 13, and while many celebrities did not disappoint with their fashion, others certainly have. After more than a year of waiting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Met Gala 2021 took place last week on September 13, and while many celebrities did not disappoint with their fashion, others certainly have.

The Met Gala is an exclusive fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, attended by many of the biggest celebrities. Each year the gala has a theme in which attendees are expected to follow.

Some of the themes from previous years include: Camp 2019: Fashion Notes and Heavenly Bodies 2018: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination (my favorite Met Gala).

This year’s theme was “In America: A Fashion Lexicon”. The theme attracted many participants channeling American icons or making political statements.

With the Met Gala known as one of fashion’s biggest parties, let’s take a look at some of the best and worst looks of the night.

The best outfits

Kendall Jenner easily had one of the most stunning looks on the red carpet. Jenner wore a sheer Givenchy dress with jewels, taking an old Hollywood approach to the theme. The dress was inspired by a Givenchy dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in the movie “My Fair Lady”. Jenner’s look was both themed and gorgeous, putting her at the top of my best dressed category.

The duo of sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey did not disappoint at their first Met Gala. The sisters both wore Rodarte, Halle wearing a pink fringed bodysuit and Chloe wearing a white dress with a long train. Halle’s bodysuit was inspired by iconic American singer and actress Tina Turner, while it seems Chloe took an old Hollywood approach to the theme.

Lil Nas X, attending the Met Gala for the first time, presented three different looks. The rapper wore a Versace ensemble consisting of a large gold cape, gold armor and a crystal bodysuit covered in the signature Versace print.

X’s looks were bold and memorable, with the deeper sense of artist coming out of its shell in recent years.

Model Iman Abdulmajid had one of the biggest and most beautiful outfits at the Met Gala.

Iman wore a gold pantsuit topped with a gold feathered skirt and headpiece designed by Dolce & Gabbana x Harris Reed. The gaze symbolized “a ray of light after all the darkness we have felt,” according to Iman.

Iman Abdulmajid was definitely extravagant.

Last but not the least on my best dressed list is Yara Shahidi. The actress and model wore a beaded Christian Dior gown with matching elbow-length gloves and a beaded beanie.

Shahidi got the mission, paying homage to American fashion icon Josephine Baker with her look. Her dress was inspired by one of Baker’s custom Dior dresses, and it definitely did it justice.

Yara Shahidi’s outfit was perfect.

The worst outfits

Kim Petras certainly turned heads on the red carpet, but for all the wrong reasons. Petras wore a Collina Strada dress with a 3D horse head with a printed skirt. The look gave a lot of horse girl vibes which is pretty on the theme, but wasn’t very flattering and could have been executed better.

Kim Petras was turning heads for all the wrong reasons.

Kacey Musgraves also wore an equestrian-inspired outfit, but unlike Petras’s, it didn’t get much attention. Musgraves wore a Ralph Lauren ensemble consisting of a black top, metallic skirt and leather riding boots. Musgraves’ look was one of the blandest of the night, and as a country singer, she could have done a lot more with the theme.

Kacey Musgraves could have done so much more with her outfit.

Madison Beer looked gorgeous as always, but her dress looked like it was overdue and stopped at Macy’s prom dresses section along the way. Beer wore a dark green jeweled dress from Patricia Voto.

The dress was inspired by the look of Marilyn Monroe in the movie Men prefer blondes, so at least it was themed. Overall, it missed the mark and looked very disappointing for the Met Gala.

Kim Kardashian made a spectacular entrance in what looked like a Halloween costume. Kardashian wore an all-black Balenciaga look, which covered her from head to toe.

Kim Kardashian’s outfit was bold but didn’t quite hit the mark.

The outfit looked like a void on the red carpet; If the look was some sort of commentary on the theme, I’m not sure anyone got the message.

ASAP Rocky showed up at the Met in… a duvet? The rapper wore a large, colorful quilt from ERL’s spring collection. The look didn’t seem to relate to the theme and wasn’t very trendy, but hey, at least it was warm and cozy.
