Alex Dunn’s test of patience with Thahab Ifraj in search of a summer pitch paid off impressively when he landed the 2m2½f handicap hurdle.

The eight-year-old regular was confidently led by Fergus Gillard, who nailed his 5-pound claim with his 40th career success.

Gillard had participated in Thahab Ifraj’s last success at Kempton in November and the Somerset-based coach praised the home jockey’s hard work.

She said: “Fergus has been helping out in the yard for ten days. He bought store horses for us and it’s nice to give him a nice winner.”

It has been a waiting game for Dunn as the persistent rain throughout May forced her to remove Thahab Ifraj from various planned targets.

She added: “We couldn’t run him, we had to wait. It was such a wet May. He’s been a big servant to us and he could run under a penalty at Aintree next week.”

Buckley back with a bang

Tom Buckley made an instant winning comeback aboard Some Detail in the 2m7f handicap hurdle.

The conditional runner had been on the sidelines for 76 days with a shoulder injury but made a perfect comeback coming home by two lengths and three quarters on the seven-year-old coached by Nigel Hawke .

Happy hammond

Middleham coach Micky Hammond netted a brace as Raddle And Hum landed the 2m4½f novice handicap hurdle before High Noon forced him into the 2m5½f handicap pursuit.
